Step 1: Install and Activate OptinMonster Plugin
First of all, you need to install and set up the OptinMonster plugin on your WordPress website. To unlock the content locking feature, you’ll need a plus or higher plan.

Step 2: Create a new Campaign
Log into your WordPress dashboard and go to OptinMonster » Campaigns and click on the Create New Campaign button.
Select the Inline campaign type to create content-locking.
Next, you need to choose the template. The best thing about OptinMonster is that they offer premium ready-made templates that you can use on your website. Select the one you like and click on the “Use Templates” button.
Now, you will be asked to enter the name of your campaign, select the website where you want to use the content locker, and then hit the Start Building button.
Step 3: Customization
On the next page, you’ll see various editing tools on the left side of your dashboard. With the help of these tools, you can customize your opt-in campaigns. Now the next thing you need to do is click on “Design” at the top of your page and then click on the Inline Settings option.
Under the Inline settings, you’ll see three options:
- Enable Smart Success
- Lock content below campaign
- Content locking style
Now, skip the first two and turned on the toggle to Content locking style. As soon as it is enabled, you will see two options: Obfuscation and Removal.
- Obfuscation: It blurs the content below the optin campaign.
- Removal: It removes the content below the optin campaign.
You can set it according to your requirements and click Save at the top right corner. After that, you’ll need to connect your opt-in form to your email service provider.
To do this, go to the Integration tab then click Add New Integration and select your email marketing software which you use from the dropdown menu.
Once you’re registered and connected then click on the Save button.
Next, go to the “Publish” tab and change the status from draft to publish.
Once again head over to the WordPress admin area and click the OptinMonster icon where you’ll see the lists of all the campaigns you created.
From there, select the campaign you created for content locker and click on “Edit Output Settings”.
On clicking this, your page will be reloaded where you will see all the settings. Just make sure that the “enable campaign on site” option should be ticked. If you haven’t already, then tick this option, and don’t forget to click on Save Settings.
Just below you’ll see the shortcode for your campaign. Copy and paste this code on the page or post where you want to display the content locker. That’s it!
