Do you want to maximize conversions and sales for your online business? If so, you’ve come to the right place.
One of the best ways to do that is to create a popup coupon on your website and today, in this tutorial, we’ll walk you through exactly how to boost conversions like crazy with coupon popups but before that let’s see which popup coupon app should you use.
Let’s get the ball rolling.
Which is the Best Popup Coupon App to Use?
There are plenty of tools available on the market (like ConvertPro or Elementor) to create coupon popups, but not all of them offer you the best solution.
Sometimes the intrusive pop-ups can be annoying to your visitors especially if you do not offer coupons at the right time and purpose so it’s important to offer discounts in the right way, at the right time, to the right people makes them feel special.
Luckily, OptinMonster allows you to display coupons on a particular page, to specific visitors, at specific times, and in specific locations with geotargeting. It also allows you to target coupons by device and display certain popups according to visitors’ activity or inactivity.
With that said, let’s have a quick overview of OptinMonster:
What is OptinMonster?
OptinMonster is the best lead generation software that’s used by millions of websites all over the World. Its signature Exit-Intent technology allows you to convert your site visitors into subscribers and customers. You can easily integrate OptinMonster with WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, or any other CMS platform. It’s currently the best coupon popup plugin available on the market.
It also has powerful features like page-level targeting, geo-location targeting, device-based targeting, etc. to let you create targeted coupon popup campaigns for your online store.
How Much Does OptinMonster Cost?
OptinMonster pricing starts at $9 per month (billed annually).
Now, let’s see how to create a popup coupon with OptinMonster in WordPress.
How to Create a Popup Coupon with OptinMonster
Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on creating a popup coupon with the help OptinMonster:
Step 1: Creating Your Campaign
The first thing you’ll need to do is install and activate the OptinMonster plugin on your WordPress site. Therefore, if you already have a pro subscription, skip this step.
Next, you’ll need to create a new campaign. To do this, log into your OptinMonster account or create a new one (if required) and click Create Campaign. As shown in the screenshot:
Now, you’ll need to select a campaign type. For the sake of keeping this tutorial even more practical, we’ll be using Lightbox Popup.
After choosing a campaign type, you need to figure out a template for your popup. The best thing I like about OptinMonster is that they offer 30+ premium templates that you can use, with different color schemes and layouts.
Hover to any of these popup templates and click on the “Use Templates” button. For this tutorial, we’re using the Coupon theme. You can find this by scrolling through the available themes or go to the search box and type a “coupon” to find it quickly:
After this, you will be asked to enter the name of your campaign, select the website you want to use the popup on, and then hit the Start Building button to customize.
Step 2: Popup Coupon Customization
Now you need to customize your popup using the tools that have been given to you on the left-hand side of your dashboard. You can easily add or change elements such as font style, color, images, titles of your campaigns to match the branding of your site.
Always remember that whenever you make changes to your popup campaign, click the Save button in the top right corner of the page.
Step 3: Setting up the Coupon Delivery Method
After finishing with the basic design, it’s time to set up the coupon delivery. This means how your customers will access the coupon after they click on the submit button. This can be done in several ways.
Since we’re using OptinMonster so the best way to do that is to send the coupon immediately through the Success view or also via email. To deliver via email then you must enable your email service provider integration.

The Success View can also help you including:
- You can redirect your site’s visitor to a particular page containing coupon code
- Type the coupon code in the success view as shown in the image below. You can also edit this in the Success tab.
The Success view is already set up as the default action button so if you’d like to change it (suppose you want to redirect your visitors to a different page) you’ll need to change the button action and this can be done in the Action tab as shown in the screenshot below:
Click the dropdown under Form Success Action and select Redirect to a URL and type your URL in the Redirect URL field.
You can also use a coupon link under the redirect URL which will be applied automatically when a visitor clicks on the submit button.
Final Step: Preview and Publish your Coupon Code
We’re almost done! In this final step, we need to save changes, then publish the campaign. To do this, go to the Publish tab and turn on the toggle status to make the campaign live.
Once it is live on the web, here’s the final look of our coupon popup:
Note: If you’re not able to see the popup, make sure to refresh the page or close once and open that page again.
You have published a coupon popup on your site but you won’t have to stop here. Your campaign is still on the default Display settings so it’s time to choose when and where visitors will see your coupon popup.
To do this, go to your campaign’s dashboard and click on the Display Rules tab:
You will see several options to display the campaign. For instance, in our case – I’d like to display the coupon popup when a new visitor comes to my site or when a visitor is about to leave my site. We can also set the time rules such as after how many minutes or how many seconds the popup coupon will be displayed on our site.
Take some time to think carefully about when and where visitors will see it, as this is the most important part of your popup campaign. When you’re done, click on the Save button at the top right corner of the page. That’s it.
